A comforting thought I heard one August night, anchored off Block Island, as I lay beneath a 52 foot metal mast, in the forward berth of the proud sailing vessel Undaunted, during a fierce electrical storm.

That statement above has more than literal value. It’s a metaphor, like some of the other stuff you’ll read here. For instance…

Don’t bring your lunch to a banquet.
And…
Don’t swing at ball four.
(Sometimes pronounced “Don’t break into jail.”)
And…
Nobody’s guano is Haagen Dazs.
And…
All boats rise with the tide.
